What is some good advice on how I can win my Small Claims case?

Were you married at the time the debt was invoked? In most states you are responsible for half of your spouse's debt and they are responsible for half of yours. If you weren't married at the time the debt was incurred and you made no agreement to pay just explain that to the judge. He probably thought you wouldn't show up and he'd get a decision in his favor, then he can place a lien on any property you have. Go, defend yourself calmly. If you can get him to explode in the courtroom all the better.
